W, V and F Sounds

Intermediate · Tongue Twisters

These separate the rounded-lip /w/ (wet) from the teeth-on-lip /v/ (very) and /f/ (fun). Feel the difference: /w/ has no teeth touching, while /v/ and /f/ have the top teeth on the bottom lip.

Target sounds

/w/ rounded lips · /v/ teeth on lip + buzz · /f/ teeth on lip, no buzz

Tips to remember

  • For /w/, round your lips and keep teeth away from the lip; for /v/ and /f/, rest the top teeth on the bottom lip.
  • Contrast pairs slowly: "wet–vet", "west–vest", "wine–vine".
