P, B, T and D Sounds

Basic · Tongue Twisters

These "popping" consonants train crisp lips and tongue and the little puff of air on p and t. Great for clear, punchy speech and for practising voiced/voiceless pairs (p/b, t/d).

Target sounds

/p/–/b/ (lips) · /t/–/d/ (tongue on ridge) · aspiration on p, t

Tips to remember

  • Hold a tissue near your mouth on "Peter Piper" — it should flutter with each puff of air on the p.
  • Keep b and d softer (no puff) and let the vocal cords buzz.
