How to Use Tongue Twisters
Basic · Tongue Twisters
Tongue twisters are short phrases packed with similar or tricky sounds. They are the gym for your mouth: by repeating them, you train the exact muscle movements a sound needs, until it becomes automatic.
The goal is NOT speed first. Say each twister slowly and clearly, getting every sound right, then gradually speed up. If you make a mistake, slow down again. A few minutes a day makes a real difference.
The method
SLOW & clear → a bit faster → fast. Accuracy first, speed second. Repeat 3–5 times.
Rules & examples
- Warm up your mouth first.
Say the target sound alone a few times before the twister.
- sss-sss-sss
- th-th-th
- r-r-r / l-l-l
- Start slow, exaggerate, then speed up.
Big clear movements build the muscle memory; speed comes later.
- She... sells... sea... shells → she sells sea shells
- Use the 🔊 button, then copy it.
Listen to the model, then record yourself and compare.
- Listen → repeat → check → repeat faster
Tips to remember
- Accuracy beats speed. A slow, perfect twister helps far more than a fast, sloppy one.
- Pick the twister set for YOUR difficult sound (e.g. R/L or TH) and drill it daily for a week.
- Over-exaggerate lips and tongue at first, then relax to a natural size.
